Salzburger Almenweg: Stage 11
"So close to the Tauern"
Leaving from the car park, the trail crosses the stream, branches off onto the supply road and follows this in a southerly direction, past the Waldgasthof Angertal to the turn-off for the Miesbichlscharte- Schattbachalm.
At this point, the trail continues slightly uphill along a forest path, crossing a forestry road several times, until reaching the Schattbachalm, an inviting spot for a well-earned rest and refreshments after this 1 1/2-hour walk. Now the Rupertiweg trail leads beyond the tree line and up to the Miesbichlscharte at an elevation of 2,233 m above sea level.
Approx. 300 meters below the alpine gap, our trail meets the Otto-Reichert-Weg which has come from the Stubnerkogel (which can be reached from Bad Gastein by taking the Stubnerkogel lift, runs daily during the summer from the end of May until mid-October).
The descent from the Miesbichlscharte down to the Bockhartsee (reservoir) spans about 400 vertical meters. Once at the reservoir, it is only a 100 vm climb up to the Bockhartseehütte, easily reached via a broad pathway. Now we can enjoy some hearty regional cooking and soak up the fantastic views stretching from the peaks of the Goldberg and Ankogel ranges, all the way down to the Nassfeld/Sportgastein.
Located at 1,600 m, the finish for this stage is only a 1-hour descent away via a well-marked trail that crosses a supply road on multiple occasions. Many people prefer to take the supply road, especially as it is less steep.
