Stage 4

"Into the sun"

Directions:

The Mühlbach lift will take us up to the Karbachalm, from where we’ll continue to the Bergrettungskreuz (elev. 1,921 m) and from there to the Schneebergkreuz (1,939 m), which is where the actual start of this stage is located.

Following the ridgeline, we descend towards the south, past some small ponds, making a right into the forest. Passing through a small trench formation, we make a left after around 350 m. First along a narrow footpath through the forest, then on a hill trail that runs above the Grünsteinalm, we continue down until we reach a supply road.

We cross this, after which comes a short climb to the Hochegg. The path takes us beneath the summit, however. There follows a relatively flat descent, first through forest and then over meadows with occasional groves of spruce, until we come to the Gamskögerl.

This is a smallish hill, which we can either immediately clamber up from the SE, or partially circle and enjoy an easier ascent from the south. Our efforts are rewarded with superb panoramic views in every direction.

An initially steep descent (Goldegg-Weng) brings us down to the supply road, which serves as an access both to the Rossbachalm and Oberwengalm. After crossing the supply road at an intersection, we take the footpath to the left and head down across a meadow, briefly following the newly constructed supply road and then branching off once again onto the footpath (look out for the signs).

We cross this supply road twice more, until, after the Schrempfalm, we commence a really steep descent. 200 vertical meters below, we will come to a supply road next to a small stream. After around 500 meters, we turn off and make our way down to Weng.
