Salzburger Almenweg - The hiking stages

This stage begins at the church in St. Martin. We head west from here as we leave town. Via a road and then a footpath, we make our way up to the Buttermilchalm, from where we can enjoy fantastic views of the valley. Passing by the Buttermilchalm we leave the access road to the left, taking a narrow and occasionally steep forestry path to the Ostermaisalm.
Then our walk becomes more leisurely as we continue along a forestry road, until we finally make our way down to the Karalm. We double back a little way along this road, continuing straight and taking the path up to the Koreinalm. After reaching the Frommer Hochalm, we commence a very relaxing high trail with imposing views. We won’t allow ourselves to be confused by the many trail signs here, branching off to the right onto high trail ("Höhenweg") No. 201. After just a little more than 2 km, we now head downhill. Passing above the Laubichlalm, we continue on towards the Brandstättalm.
Shortly beforehand, a pathway leaves the trail and commences a modest climb. This path eventually leads down to the Dr. Heinrich Hackel-Hütte (just 300 meters away). Now we have earned a break on the hut’s panoramic terrace. From here we can descend to the car park in Wengerau or Zaglauwinkel.
