Stage 27: Radstadt - Filzmoos
"The views and high moors of the Rossbrand"
Starting Point: Radstadt
Finish Point: Filzmoos
Lowest Point / Highest Point: 856 m / 1770 m
Total Elevation Change (in meters): 950 m
Length of Stage: ca. 12 km
Stage Characteristics: Only moderately difficult. Hiking path via high moors, narrow pathway to Moosalm, forest path in parts from Moosalm on
Time on Trail: ca. 5.5 Stunden

Our starting point is the post office (car park) in Radstadt. From there we take trail No. 462 ("Rossbrand") past the town pond and along the Loretostrasse, crossing the main highway safely and coming to the campground. We continue straight along the Bürgerbergstrasse, until the Almenweg branches off into the forest. This steep forest trail crosses the forestry road several times, first bringing us to the Bürgerbergalm. We then continue in similar fashion, crossing the forestry road several times yet again, until we leave the forest and reach the Radstädter Hütte on the Rossbrand. We can once again stop here for refreshments, enjoy the magnificent panoramas in every direction (views of more than 150 alpine peaks), learning about how these natural landscapes were created and other interesting facts from eight panorama displays that are sunk into massive blocks. Of course, we could make this climb a little easier by taking our car up the Rossbrandstrasse.
From the Radstädter Hütte a beautiful and almost flat trail (No. 460) leads us out to the Moserscharte. We will once again cross the Rossbrandstrasse and hike on to the TV transmitter. A really leisurely stretch, leading through sparse forest and past numerous small high moors. As of the Moserscharte (Trail No. 464), we make our way more steeply downhill, leaving the forest after a while and reaching the Moosalm by crossing the ski slope. A beautiful spot to rest and enjoy magical views of the Dachstein Massif, the Bischofsmütze and the town of Filzmoos. Our descent keeps us in the forest close to the ski slope, taking us first to the lift base station and then on to Filzmoos.
