Salzburger Almenweg - The hiking stages

From the bus stop in Forstau (at the car park) we cross the main road and hike northwards to the Langeggteich. From here the trail takes us through the forest, climbing only slightly, to the Heimlscharte, the highest point (elev. 1018 m) on this stage of the Almenweg.
Next we head just as gradually downhill, soon reaching the Ennstal where we now make our way along the Enns (Bike) Path, heading upriver all the way to Radstadt. The main highway has heavy traffic, but we don’t need to cross it. Instead we pass below it, then make a right onto trail No.1 (the Ennsweg), crossing the railway tracks, heading left alongside the railway line, on past the train station (also a bus station) all the way to the southern walls of the town and the post office.
